This bro= wnfield integration project required reliable insulation coordination for a= new 220kV GIS extension. The site had to ensure:

> Protection against Temporary Overvoltages (T= OV) =E2=80=93 caused by Ferranti effect, load rejection, and fault= conditions.

> Switch= ing Overvoltage (SFO) Management =E2=80=93 arising from transforme= r energization and circuit breaker operations.

Solution

= We conducted a comprehensive = insulation coordination study using PSCAD, focusing on:

=E2= =9C=94 TOV Simulation =E2=80=93 Analyzed Ferranti effect, load rejection, LG/LLG faults with ca= bles and long transmission lines in service.

=E2=9C=94 Transformer Energization Study = =E2=80=93 Verified that the 220/33kV, 115/140 MVA transformer=E2=80=99s pea= k overvoltage was well within insulation and surge arrester limits.

= =E2=9C=94 Fast Front Overvolt= age Study =E2=80=93 Evaluated backflashovers and direct strikes; e= nsured proper surge protection using Class 3 arresters and verified protection margins >1.2
