Large-scale inverter-based solar projects must meet CEA regulations bef= ore being permitted to export power to the grid. Non-compliance can delay c= ommissioning and lead to costly penalties. 

Challenge=E2=80=99s they faced:

When working on this project, the solar plant had to meet the following= requirements across four 300 MW sites: 

> LVRT &= HVRT Compliance =E2=80=93 To remain connected during voltage dips and = surges 

> Harmonic D= istortion Limits =E2=80=93 THD at the 400kV POI was exceeding IEEE 519-= 2022 limits

> Flicker & DC= Injection Control =E2=80=93 Required verification under real-world inv= erter load fluctuations 

> Multi-location Inverter Behaviour =E2=80=93 Nee= ded to validate inverter performance across all three sites under varying l= oad conditions 

 

Our Solution 

To address these challenges, we conducted a comprehensive grid complian= ce study using PSCAD: 

=E2=9C=94 Dyn= amic Simulation for LVRT & HVRT =E2=80=93 Simulated symmetrical fau= lts and overvoltage scenarios at 100%, 50%, and 25% load levels 

=E2=9C=94 Dyn= amic Simulation for frequency response, Voltage response and active pow= er ramp =E2=80=93 Simulated active power changes with respect to frequency&= nbsp;changes and voltage changes. The rate of change of power output is lim= ited to not more than +10% per minute.

=E2=9C=94 Har= monic Analysis =E2=80=93 Identified dominant 13th harmonic, then design= ed custom filter banks at each 33kV bus 

=E2=9C=94 Filter Bank Design - Suggested Filter banks with = Capacitance of 24.813 =C2=B5F and Inductance of 0.00245 H for Dhaulpur, Rai= ser, Deoghar & Phalodi Plants to meet the IEEE 519 guidelines. 
=E2=9C=94 DC Current Injection =E2=80=93 Verified injection= was only 0.03% (well below 0.5% limit) 

=E2=9C=94 Flicker Study =E2=80=93 Simulated irradiance chan= ges; ensured Pst =3D 0.46, Plt =3D 0.46 =E2=80=94 both within IEC 61000 lim= its
