How did we helped a 2x210=E2= =80=AFMW Thermal Power Plant build a reliable Electrical Design for = FGD system? 

India has 183 Nos of existing Coal based thermal power plants wi= th 448 number of units (stacks) developed by 72 Nos of developers. 

The= Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) onboard NASA=E2=80=99s Aura satellite ha= s been providing global observations of key atmospheric pollutant gases inc= luding sulphur dioxide (SO2), since October 2004. 

Case Study:

= Annual mean SO2 column burden data as well as trend in annual mean SO2 colu= mn burden data over the Indian region during the period from 2005 to 2= 019.
FGD systems are critical retrofit installations for emission contro= l. Here=E2=80=99s how we helped a flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system at= a 2x210 MW coal-based thermal power station in Maharashtra build a fully c= oordinated relay protection scheme for its auxiliary network=E2=80=94ensuri= ng safe fault isolation and operational stability.

Challenge=E2=80=99s they faced:

The facility faced oper= ational risks across three electrical configurations: 

> Meetin= g the additional demand with existing infrastructure 
> Increase in short circu= it current with additional motors 
> Protection coordination with additional equipment=E2=80=99s 
&g= t; Coordination had to be achieved across a network of Siemens SIP= ROTEC relays under both phase and ground fault conditions.

Solution

We carried out a physic= al measurement of existing load for a week time and performed load flow, sh= ort circuit and relay coordination studies using ETAP Star 24.0.C: 
=E2=9C=94 Modelled the entire existing 210 MW with= Generator, IPBD, Generator Transformer, Unit Auxiliary Transformer, Grid e= tc 
=E2=9C=94 Added the proposed FGD System with 6.6 kV and 0= .415 kV feeders under realistic operating conditions, including open PMCC b= us coupler. 
=E2=9C=94 Checked the loading of Unit auxiliary transformer and = station transformer using load flow and validating with physical measuremen= ts 
=E2=9C=94 Validated the short circuit current are w= ithin the limit of Switchgears 
=E2=9C=94 Verified prot= ection settings for all SIPROTEC 7SJ66 and 7SJ64 relays at the HT and LT le= vels. 
=E2=9C=94 Configured 50, 51, 50N, and 51N elemen= ts with normal and extremely inverse IEC curves. 
=E2=9C=94 = ;Generated TCC plots for each feeder, checking coordination at 3x, 5x, = and 8x fault current multiples.
=E2=9C=94 Established discri= mination margins for critical feeders such as MCC panels, viper mills, and = sorbent blowers.
